Artists of Bristol on the Delaware

Meeting Notes for September 13, 2017

Presiding Officer: John Styner                                                 Number Attending: 26

John Styner asked if there is anyone interested in being the Secretary for the group. This requires taking notes at the board meetings and regular meetings and composing the meeting minutes for distribution on the Internet. Contact him at  johnstyner@verizon.net .

Guests:  There were no guests this month.

Treasurers Report: Janice Rhodes reported that our balance is $11, 847.74. A large part of this is a federal education grant for the Bristol Borough School district.

Centre for the Arts: There are about 29 members who are interested in displaying work in the wall space that AOB has rented. There was discussion about the gallery sitting requirement for exhibitors on Mondays, which makes it difficult for people who work to consider exhibiting, and the number of exhibitors this obligation requires relative to the size of the allocated space. Janice Rhodes is stepping down as the coordinator.

Historic Bristol Day: Janice announced that Historic Bristol Day is on Saturday, October 21. Friday, October 20, from 4 to 6PMis the drop-off and set up of your own work at the Community Baptist Church at 225 Radcliffe Street for anyone participating in the exhibit at the church on the next day. You are responsible for your own sales, easels, tables, etc. The church has no hanging system.  We will have a table outside in front of the church to encourage people to venture inside.

Lower Bucks Hospital: It is planned that the first week in October will be the changeover for our exhibit at the Lower Bucks Hospital. Contact Pat Riffe if you are interested in exhibiting at priffesix@comcast .com .

Announcements: Tom Furey and Mary Blackey had their framed pieces accepted at Phillips Mill. Several members had portfolio work accepted as well. Congratulations to all.

Rodney Miller and Rosemarie Strippoli were honored at the Lower Bucks Campus of the Community College for all the work they do there.

The Mythical and Magical Exhibit at the Middletown Township Building was announced by Linda Reboh and there is no cost to enter. Contact Linda at cosmiccreations@live.com for information and if you are interested in teaching at the Barn.

Bucks County Visitor Center-Tom Furey and Karen Smith are exhibiting there from November thru January. Abstract Artists of Bucks County is the current exhibit at the Centre for the Arts in Bristol from Sept. 17 to October 4.

The business portion of the meeting concluded, Gail B. spoke about Cadwallader Park in Trent on, NJ and the exhibit that ends this weekend. Fredrick Olmsted, who designed Central Park and many other parks, was the designer of this park and the community that surrounds it . There is a historic house tour this weekend. Gail introduced the speaker for the evening, Carol Hill. Carol showed many photos of the park and told the group about the history of the park.

"Archeological Digging"

Mary Mills  & her partner Becky work with the organization (AECOM) based in Burlington.

They gave an interesting power point presentation along with samples of the actual artifacts discovered.  They showed the work of Artisans, Potters & Glassblowers.

There is also fascinating exhibit at Wheaton Village (Glass) on this topic.

Thanks to Bill Roadfuss who also brought some of the treasure that he’s “dug up.”
